Michael Zemel

Headshot of NuSirt Chief Scientific Officer and Co-Founder Michael ZemelDr. Michael Zemel is the the Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer at NuSirt Biopharma and Chief Scientific Officer at Kinexum.

At NuSirt, he develops and runs the discovery R&D program in metabolic health, leading to clinical stage asset development in obesity, diabetes and NASH.  He also leads the NuSirt clinical program development and regulatory effort through Phase 2 in each of the company’s therapeutic areas. Before starting NuSirt, Dr. Zemel served as Professor of Medicine and Nutrition at the University of Tennessee. Prior to that, he was Professor of Endocrinology and Nutrition at Wayne State University, with a concurrent position as Research Endocrinologist at the VA. 

Dr. Zemel has authored or co-authored more than 200 clinical and basic peer-reviewed publications in numerous journals, including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, New England Journal of Medicine, American Journal of Physiology, Endocrinology, Journal of Clinical Investigation, American Journal of Hypertension, PLoSOne, FASEB Journal, Metabolism, and Obesity. He holds B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
